Seems like logical information in terms of getting to know more about the mobile qual hype. In my opinion, mobile qual does not always have to be via text messaging though for some, they don't see the usual of using say audio recording or live video footage.

To us, it's not so much how rich the qualitative data is that's collected, as much as the quality of the segmentation analysis that matters.

For sometime now there has been a tension between the trend between differentiation and and the need for cross team communication. What ultimately determined the equilibrium between these two opposing forces and the absolute necessity of providing value to clients; this moderates both the tendency towards abstruse specialization (if the information being produces isn't relevant to the client) and generalization.

If hyperspecialization is another form of work groups, simply dividing up work amongst group members, where did teams end up dissolving?

I think that working in true teams with a consistent channel of communication and collaboration is what gives the best product. Of course there should be some division of specialization, but not to the extent of excluding others' input.

Other than that, I like thinking about the way in which the increasing involvement of technology in our lives have made us all some-what hyperspecialized. What will be the next big thing that allows us to gain better insight into research for clients?

Hi Matt - great post. I stumbled across you post whilst researching platforms. It's easy to get lost in the "feature war"!

As a Community Manager I couldn't agree more with your points about keeping the platform simple. The most basic feature set should really be all you need to get started, after all a healthy community's about people not technology. Of course technology can aid communication - so add features as the needs become apparent. Your 3 points are spot on.

I'm also a @37signals fan, their book Rework is brilliant.
